We are live throughout the weekdays and even on the weekends, a rare feat in radio these days. WATZ plays “Today’s Country” with a bit of classic country thrown into the mix., as well as polkas on our popular “Sunday Morning in Poland” show. WRGZ not only plays “Today’s Country” but also broadcasts Detroit Tigers baseball, Detroit Lions football, and Detroit Red Wings hockey.
Both stations combined serve over twelve counties in Northern Michigan with the latest in weather information, news and, of course, country music!
WATZ has a long, rich heritage in the broadcast industry. The station was the first commercial broadcast facility in Alpena, and one of the first in Northern Lower Michigan. It is still owned by the same family who founded the station in 1946.
WATZ-WRGZ plays a Hot Country format, throwing in some of the classics that seem to only get better with age. For over 25 years, Steve Wright has anchored WATZ's popular morning show, which features "Feats of Bowling Greatness", trivia, and Trademart, a well-loved WATZ tradition.
Mary Thurston keeps you company in the late morning and early afternoon with her quick wit and quirky sense of humor.
Mike Rhea and Stacee Martin are your weekend buddies, entertaining you in between your favorite shows, like Rowdy Yates' Country Gold, Trucker Radio, Rick Jackson's Country Classics, New Music Nashville, CT 40 with Bob Kinsley, Country Gold with JR Wooster, Country Hitmakers, and Gospel Music Time with Susie Martin. Phil Wenzel returns with Elaine Misiak for the legendary "Sunday Morning in Poland" show every week from 9 to 11 AM.
